Applied Microsystems Introduces Communications Gateway for Analyzing And Debugging VxWorks-Based Systems
REDMOND, Wash., June 27 /PRNewswire/ --
Applied Microsystems Corp. (Applied) (Nasdaq: APMC) today announced expanded
support for developers using VxWorks®, the widely used real-time operating
system (RTOS) from Wind River Systems Inc. Applied's CodeTEST® and
NetROM(TM) products have been integrated to form a communications gateway for
developers analyzing and debugging software code in VxWorks-based embedded
systems. This combined tool set enables a host-to-target networked communications
channel for developers whose systems do not have a useable communications port
for debug and development. With Applied's tool set, users can debug and
analyze high-end embedded systems over a high-speed communications channel
while maintaining connection to the target -- throughout the entire
development process. Applied is the leading supplier offering visibility tools that integrate
with Wind River's Tornado® IDE and a WindLink(TM) premier partner, making
the CodeTEST/NetROM combination a critical tool set for developers using the
VxWorks RTOS. CodeTEST offers software development teams gains in quality and
productivity with software test and analysis methods that migrate through each
stage of software development. NetROM accelerates the development cycle by
linking the software analysis and debug tools via Ethernet connections and
functioning as a communications gateway. The ability to construct a high-speed
connection to the target, during the entire development and test process,
results in a better quality product developed faster and a reduction in
overall development costs. ``Until now, many developers using VxWorks-based targets have really had no
way of maintaining a continuous and independent connection to the target while
they debugged and analyzed the code,'' said Steve Dearden, Applied's vice
president of marketing. ``With code quality demands growing and development
time shrinking, a continuous real-time, high-speed connection to the target is
essential for producing defect-free code quickly and cost effectively. NetROM
provides that linkage and CodeTEST provides the measurement and visibility
into the software application.'' ``Applied's CodeTEST/NetROM solution ensures that developers can take
advantage of a networked development environment, even if their design does
not support a network connection,'' said Dave Sheaffer, senior director of
marketing & business development for Wind River's Platforms business unit.
``Designers who use our market-leading RTOS to develop service-critical
Internet, defense and aerospace and high-speed networking equipment will
greatly benefit from the combined CodeTEST/NetROM integration.'' Pricing & Availability NetROM and CodeTEST with virtual Ethernet integration for VxWorks is
available immediately through Wind River and Applied Microsystems. About CodeTEST CodeTEST is a member of Applied's CodeOPTIX family of high-level software
visibility tools. CodeTEST offers software development teams much-needed gains
in quality and productivity with software test and analysis methods that
migrate through each stage of software development. With common file formats
for native, software and hardware test and analysis, CodeTEST becomes the
basis for a coherent, integrated test methodology. The CodeOPTIX family now includes three new CodeTEST products:
CodeTEST
Native(TM), CodeTEST Software-In-Circuit(TM), and CodeTEST
Hardware-In-Circuit(TM). Each can be used throughout the embedded software
lifecycle for development, debugging and testing. About NetROM NetROM is a flexible platform that combines high-speed target
communications and debugging capabilities -- and accelerates the development
cycle by providing a conduit for faster downloads and remote target control
over a network. With it, source-level debugging can be performed from any
workstation over the network using a simple memory connection to the target. About Applied Microsystems Applied Microsystems is the leading provider of innovative technologies
and software development tools that expedite complex software projects for OEM
customers in the high-speed networking, games and other markets. Applied offers sophisticated tools for software verification, application
testing and debugging. Tools such as CodeTEST®, LiveCODE(TM), NetROM(TM),
CodeTAP(TM), and SuperTAP(TM) ensure timely delivery, high quality of service
and device reliability for their customers' products. The company can be reached at P.O. Box 97002, Redmond, Wash. 98073-9702;
